President Xi Jinping Celebrates Macao’s 25th Anniversary of Return to China

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a passionate speech on December 20 at the celebration marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. The event also witnessed the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

In his address, President Xi highlighted the significant transformation Macao has undergone over the past quarter-century. “Macao has experienced earthshaking changes, and its international standing has increased significantly,” he remarked, acknowledging the region’s strides in economic development, social stability, and cultural prosperity.

He emphasized the successful implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle, attributing Macao’s achievements to the unwavering support of the central government and the concerted efforts of Macao’s residents. “The unity and hard work of the people of Macao have been instrumental in the remarkable progress we celebrate today,” Xi stated.

The President called for continued dedication to uphold national sovereignty, security, and development interests while promoting Macao’s unique role in connecting China with the world. He encouraged the new government to pursue innovative development strategies and deepen integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The ceremony reflected on Macao’s journey since its return to China in 1999, highlighting milestones in infrastructure, tourism, and international collaboration. Leaders and representatives from various sectors attended the event, expressing optimism for Macao’s future contributions to the nation’s growth and global engagement.
