In a significant gathering on Sunday, senior Chinese lawmakers convened during the ongoing session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee to deliberate several pivotal reports.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the plenary meeting, underscoring the importance of the session’s agenda.
The committee heard a comprehensive report on enforcing the Law on State-Owned Assets of Enterprises. The report proposed establishing and improving the entrusted agency mechanism for state-owned enterprises and state capital, aiming to enhance efficiency and oversight.
Addressing environmental concerns, lawmakers reviewed a report on the enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Emphasizing the need for law-based governance, the report called for advancing the conservation and restoration of the basin’s ecosystem, reflecting China’s commitment to ecological preservation.
An audit rectification report for 2023 was also presented. As of the end of September, rectification efforts involved a total of 538 billion yuan (approximately $74.8 billion) in funds, with over 2,800 individuals held accountable, highlighting the government’s dedication to financial integrity.
The session deliberated on the allocation and utilization of fiscal funds for disaster prevention, mitigation, and emergency management. Proposals were made to improve fiscal policies and systems and to optimize fund-allocation models, aiming to bolster the country’s disaster response capabilities.
Additionally, reports on farmland protection, legislative recording and review, and addressing misconduct and corruption among the people were discussed, indicating a comprehensive approach to governance and societal well-being.
