South Korean prosecutors announced that impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol failed to comply with a summons scheduled for Sunday and plan to issue another order soon, according to Yonhap news agency.
The special prosecution team investigating Yoon’s attempted imposition of martial law stated that they had sent a summons to his office on December 11, requesting his appearance at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Despite confirmation of delivery, Yoon did not appear for questioning.
Prosecutors have indicated that a second summons will be dispatched on Monday. Yoon was impeached by a National Assembly vote on Saturday following his brief and controversial declaration of emergency martial law earlier this month, leading to his suspension from presidential duties.
The charges against the impeached president include allegations of abusing his power by declaring martial law for unconstitutional and unlawful purposes. He is accused of ordering military commanders to deploy troops to the parliament and arrest key political figures, as reported by Yonhap.
In connection with the investigation, prosecutors sought arrest warrants on Sunday for senior military officials, including the head of the Army Special Warfare Command and the chief of the Capital Defense Command. Both prosecutors and police are actively questioning military commanders related to the martial law decree.
