China Coast Guard Urges Philippines to Halt ‘Provocations’ in Nansha Qundao Waters

The China Coast Guard (CCG) has called on the Philippines to cease what it describes as “provocative actions” in the waters around Houteng Jiao, part of China’s Nansha Qundao. On Monday, a CCG spokesperson reported that several Philippine vessels had gathered illegally in the area under the pretext of fishing.

According to spokesperson Liu Dejun, the Philippine vessels ignored warnings and attempts at dissuasion from the CCG. “These vessels gathered illegally in the waters around Houteng Jiao and were accompanied by media reporters staging scenes for publicity,” Liu said.

The CCG stated that it has implemented necessary control measures in response to the situation and urged the Philippines to immediately halt these activities to maintain peace and stability in the region.

The incident adds to ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, where territorial claims have been a source of friction among several nations. Houteng Jiao is part of the Nansha Qundao, over which China asserts sovereignty.

There was no immediate response from the Philippine authorities regarding the CCG’s statements.
