Peru Exhibition Bridges Ancient Shu and Inca Civilizations

An exhibition titled “Light of the Sun: A Dialogue Between Ancient Shu and Inca Civilizations” opened on Tuesday at the Inka Museum in Cusco, Peru.

The exhibition showcases the parallel heritage of the Ancient Shu and Inca civilizations, featuring 16 sets of replicas and 3D-printed artifacts from China’s Sanxingdui and Jinsha Site museums, alongside seven sets of Inca cultural relics. Sanxingdui and Jinsha served as significant ceremonial centers of the ancient Shu civilization, which flourished in what is now southwest China’s Sichuan Basin.

The highlight of the exhibition is the presentation of the iconic Sun and Immortal Birds Gold Ornament from the Jinsha archaeological site. This artifact shares thematic connections with the Inca’s solar worship traditions, demonstrating a fascinating link between two civilizations that developed independently across vast geographical distances.

This cultural parallel offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the shared themes of solar worship and artistic expression in ancient societies. The exhibition not only enriches the cultural landscape of Cusco but also strengthens cultural ties between Asia and South America.

The “Light of the Sun” exhibition invites scholars, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts to delve into the interconnectedness of human civilizations, highlighting how shared values and beliefs can emerge across different cultures and time periods.
