President Xi Jinping met with Sam Hou Fai, the newly elected Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), on Friday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Sam was recently appointed by China’s central government as the sixth-term Chief Executive of the Macao SAR.
During the meeting, Premier Li Qiang presented Sam with a decree from the State Council appointing him to his new position, witnessed by President Xi. Xi congratulated Sam on his appointment and praised his firm commitment to the country and Macao. He acknowledged Sam’s significant contributions to Macao’s prosperity and stability during his long tenure as President of Macao’s Court of Final Appeal.
“In the election, you were nominated and elected by an overwhelming majority, which demonstrates the broad recognition and support from the society of Macao. The central authorities fully acknowledge this and have full trust in you,” President Xi said.
Sam Hou Fai expressed his deep honor at being appointed as the sixth-term Chief Executive of the Macao SAR by the central government. He pledged to comprehensively and accurately implement the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and better integrate Macao into the overall national development. He also emphasized accelerating appropriate economic diversification to promote comprehensive development in Macao.
