Apple Unveils New iPad Mini with Advanced AI Features

Apple on Tuesday unveiled the latest generation of its iPad mini, now equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features aimed at enhancing user experience. The new iPad mini includes writing tools and an improved Siri assistant, signaling Apple’s commitment to integrating AI capabilities across its devices.

Powered by the A17 Pro chip—the same processor found in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models—the new iPad mini boasts significant performance improvements. The six-core central processing unit provides a 30 percent boost in CPU performance compared to the current generation of iPad minis, enabling seamless operation of Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI software suite.

“The A17 Pro chip brings unparalleled performance to the iPad mini, making advanced AI features possible,” said Apple in a statement. “Users will experience faster processing, smoother multitasking, and innovative AI-powered tools that enhance productivity and creativity.”

The initial set of AI features will be available this month through a software update with iPadOS 18.1, starting with the U.S. English version. These features include enhanced natural language processing, predictive text, and improved personalization. Apple has announced that the AI capabilities will be compatible with iPads equipped with A17 Pro or M1 chips and later generations.

Looking ahead, Apple plans to roll out additional AI-powered features over the coming months. This includes image-generation tools, Genmoji—a personalized emoji generator—and capabilities powered by ChatGPT, aiming to provide users with more interactive and intuitive experiences.

In September, Apple unveiled its AI-enhanced iPhone 16 lineup. Despite the introduction of AI features, initial investor reactions were tepid due to the features still being in test mode and uncertainty around early sales data. However, research firm Canalys reported on Monday that the iPhone 16 is expected to bolster Apple’s sales in the fourth quarter and sustain momentum into the first half of 2025, following record-high third-quarter shipments.

The new iPad mini, starting at $499, is now available for pre-order and will begin shipping to customers and arriving at Apple Store locations next week, according to Apple.
