China and Sri Lanka have pledged to elevate their cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), focusing on high-quality projects and new areas of development. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday, emphasizing mutual support and the deepening of bilateral ties.
During their meeting, President Xi highlighted China\u2019s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka\u2019s focus on economic development. “China will actively support Sri Lanka in concentrating on economic growth,” Xi stated. He underscored the importance of fostering new highlights in BRI cooperation, particularly in modern agriculture, the digital economy, and marine economy.
President Xi noted that China\u2019s efforts to further deepen reform and advance Chinese modernization would bring new opportunities for Sri Lanka\u2019s development. “Our comprehensive reforms are set to open new avenues for Sri Lanka,” he said, expressing optimism about shared growth and prosperity.
Reflecting on the longstanding friendship between the two nations, Xi remarked, “Since establishing diplomatic relations 68 years ago, China-Sri Lanka relations have always maintained healthy and stable development. We have set an example of friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
President Dissanayake praised the strong ties between the two countries and expressed gratitude for China\u2019s support. “Our strategic cooperative partnership has brought tangible benefits to our peoples,” he said. “We look forward to jointly building a China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future.”
The leaders agreed to grasp bilateral relations from a strategic perspective, enhancing cooperation in various fields. With the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation yielding fruitful results, both countries see immense potential in further collaboration.
