In preparation for the upcoming ninth Asian Winter Games, Harbin Taiping International Airport in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province has unveiled new automated border control systems, known as E-channels. The innovative systems aim to expedite the arrival and departure processes, enhancing efficiency for the influx of international visitors expected in the coming weeks.
Officially launched on Friday afternoon, the E-channels mark a significant advancement in the province’s border control technology. Passengers arriving on a flight from Seoul, South Korea, were among the first to experience the streamlined entry process, swiftly passing through the automated gates and into China.
The airport has installed a total of 14 E-channels—eight designated for arrivals and six for departures. This infrastructure is designed to accommodate up to 228 passengers, significantly reducing wait times and easing the workload on traditional immigration counters.
“With the Asian Winter Games, Spring Festival, and the peak of ice and snow tourism season approaching, we anticipate a substantial increase in passenger traffic,” said a spokesperson for Harbin Taiping International Airport. “The implementation of E-channels is a critical step in ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience for all our guests.”
Harbin, renowned for its stunning ice sculptures and winter festivities, is gearing up to welcome athletes and tourists from across Asia. The ninth Asian Winter Games are scheduled to take place from February 7 to 14, bringing together competitors and spectators for a celebration of winter sports.
The introduction of E-channels not only reflects Harbin’s commitment to embracing technological advancements but also highlights China’s broader efforts to enhance its transportation and tourism infrastructure. As the city prepares for an international audience, these developments are set to leave a lasting positive impression on visitors.
