Relief efforts are in full swing in the earthquake-stricken Xizang Autonomous Region in southwest China, as teams work tirelessly to assist affected residents. The region was hit by a devastating magnitude-6.8 earthquake in Dingri County of Xigaze City, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
At least 126 people have been confirmed dead, 188 are injured, and over 3,600 homes have collapsed due to the powerful quake. The Ministry of Emergency Management has mobilized 84 teams comprising a total of 1,586 personnel equipped with specialized equipment and helicopters.
These teams have been actively involved in assessing damage, providing emergency aid, and facilitating the relocation of residents. To date, over 160 damaged houses have been assessed, 500 households have received immediate assistance, and more than 61,000 relief items have been delivered to those in need.
Efforts to provide temporary housing are underway, with installations of prefabricated homes beginning in Lhaze County. Groundwork and infrastructure are being laid for 400 sets of mobile homes, offering a glimmer of hope to displaced residents seeking stability in the wake of the disaster.
