The speech has been seen as a beacon of optimism amid global challenges, emphasizing China’s role in promoting peace, prosperity, and international cooperation.

In his address delivered on Tuesday, President Xi reflected on China’s remarkable achievements over the past year, acknowledged the economic challenges ahead, and called for unity and confidence among the people. He underscored China’s dedication to contributing to global governance reforms and deepening solidarity among nations, particularly within the Global South.

Doris Alejandrina Gutierrez, president designate of Honduras, expressed appreciation for the address. In an interview, she highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between China and Latin America and conveyed optimism about future prospects for collaboration. “Xi’s address provides a positive signal for enhancing China-Honduras relations and fostering mutual development in the coming year,” Gutierrez noted.

Fernando Reyes Matta, former ambassador of Chile to China, praised China’s leadership and governance wisdom amid global turbulence. “President Xi has spoken very honestly to his people, acknowledging the major challenges, obstacles, and complexities of the past year. But the wisdom of leadership has made it possible to move forward amidst unexpected challenges,” Matta commented.

Ron Chow, co-chairman of the U.S.-China Youth and Student Exchange Association, found Xi’s speech “deeply encouraging” as it highlighted China’s advancements in technological innovation, improvements in people’s livelihoods, and progress in international cooperation. Chow expressed confidence that China will overcome all challenges and become even stronger and more prosperous, with its people leading harmonious and fulfilling lives.

Carlos Larrea, former ambassador of Ecuador to China, stressed the positive impact of Xi’s New Year address on fostering global collaboration. “It is a profound message in which he highlighted China’s decision to continue realizing all the objectives and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,” Larrea stated. He emphasized that China’s developments are strategic to the international community, as they open up prospects for quality cooperation for developing countries.

Jack Perry, chairman of the 48 Group in London, said that Xi’s speech offers profound lessons not only for China but also for the global community, including businesses and organizations in the United Kingdom. “President Xi’s remarks deeply align with our mission to foster collaboration, understanding, and mutual prosperity,” Perry said, adding that China’s achievements in new energy vehicles, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and quantum communications demonstrate its commitment to advancing technological frontiers that are directly relevant to UK businesses.

“I see immense potential in the lessons outlined in President Xi’s message. By embracing these values and fostering deeper UK-China collaboration, we can create a future that benefits businesses, communities, and the world at large,” he added.

Joseph Matthews, a senior professor at the BELTEI International University in Cambodia, remarked that Xi’s message showcased China’s important role as a leader among developing nations. He pointed out that through multilateral forums such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, APEC, and G20, China has been dedicated to advocating and promoting multilateralism as well as creating a level playing field for all participants. “President Xi’s remarks send a message to the world that China is willing to work with every country that wants to promote peace and socio-economic development and fight against poverty and unjust global governance systems,” Matthews emphasized.
