Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), a leading Chinese battery manufacturer, has unveiled two innovative standard swappable battery packs, branded as “choco-swap,” in collaboration with nearly 100 industry partners. This move marks a significant step forward in the development of a comprehensive power charging ecosystem.
The “choco-swap” battery packs are based on different chemical systems, offering products with various capacities to meet diverse consumer needs. Each standard battery pack is available in both lithium iron phosphate and ternary versions, allowing users to select the power supply that best suits their requirements.
According to local media reports, the new battery packs offer an endurance mileage ranging from 400 to 600 kilometers. CATL has ambitious plans to build 1,000 battery swap stations by 2025, aiming to enhance the accessibility and convenience of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the region.
Leveraging its extensive battery database, CATL can access historical and real-time data of every battery swap unit and individual cell. By integrating large-scale models to monitor battery degradation, the company ensures optimal battery usage and maximizes the value throughout each battery’s lifecycle.
CATL’s dominance in the EV battery market is notable, with its consumption volume ranking first globally for seven consecutive years. In 2023, the company held a 36.8 percent share of the global EV battery market, according to market research firm SNE Research.
Headquartered in Ningde, in southeast China’s Fujian Province, CATL has secured supply contracts with a number of global automobile manufacturers, including BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler, and Honda. These partnerships underscore CATL’s pivotal role in the global transition towards sustainable transportation.
