China aims to build 10,000 5G-powered factories and establish no less than 20 pilot cities for integrated 5G and industrial internet applications by 2027, according to a plan released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Monday.
The plan seeks to accelerate the integration of information and communication technologies, focusing on creating a new industrial network system centered around 5G. By 2027, the initiative aims for the widespread integration of 5G and the industrial internet into key sectors of the real economy, encompassing network infrastructure, technological products, integrated applications, industrial ecosystems, and public services.
Tang Libo from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology told China Media Group that technologies such as 5G-A, artificial intelligence, new industrial control systems, and advanced computing power will be holistically considered to meet future industrial demands.
“This will enhance the coordination between the industrial internet and key industrial chains, collectively fostering a high-quality development ecosystem for the industrial internet,” Tang said.
Currently, China has over 17,000 5G plus industrial internet projects, covering all 41 major industrial sectors. The country has built more than 4,000 5G factories, with 700 included in MIIT’s list of high-level 5G factories, demonstrating significant applications in industries such as manufacturing, mining, power, and ports.
