China has achieved significant advancements in its meteorological services over the past five years, enhancing weather forecasting accuracy and strengthening disaster prevention capabilities, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).
At a press briefing in Beijing on Monday, Song Shanyun, deputy administrator of the CMA, highlighted the remarkable progress made across multiple areas, including disaster prevention, agricultural support, and technological innovation. “We have focused on improving our meteorological services to better protect lives and support economic development,” Song stated.
One of the notable achievements is the construction of the world’s largest modern integrated meteorological observation system. This system has increased the national meteorological disaster monitoring rate to 80 percent, significantly enhancing China\u2019s ability to anticipate and respond to severe weather events.
The improved forecasting and early warning systems play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and droughts. By providing timely and accurate weather information, the CMA supports disaster risk reduction efforts, agricultural planning, and various sectors reliant on weather data.
These advancements not only safeguard communities but also contribute to the country’s economic resilience. Enhanced meteorological services enable businesses and farmers to make informed decisions, reducing losses and optimizing operations amid changing weather patterns.
China’s commitment to upgrading its meteorological capabilities reflects a broader focus on leveraging technology and innovation for sustainable development. As climate change continues to pose challenges globally, such efforts are essential for building resilient societies and economies.
