At least 124 people have died after a passenger plane veered off the runway and collided with a fence at South Korea’s Muan International Airport on Sunday, according to Yonhap News Agency. The aircraft, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, was returning from Bangkok when the tragic incident occurred.

Witnesses at the airport described scenes of chaos as the plane skidded off the runway during landing. “There was a loud screeching noise, and then we saw smoke rising from the aircraft,” said one eyewitness.

Emergency response teams were dispatched immediately to the crash site. South Korea’s acting president has called for all-out efforts in the rescue operation, urging all agencies to cooperate fully in providing aid to the victims and their families.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. Weather conditions at the time of landing, as well as potential mechanical failures, are being examined.

Muan International Airport, located in the southwestern part of the country, has temporarily suspended all flights as rescue and investigation efforts continue.

The incident marks one of the deadliest aviation disasters in South Korea’s recent history. The global community expresses condolences to the families of the victims and hopes for a swift recovery for the survivors.
