2024 Chinese National Sports Directors Conference Concludes in Beijing

The 2024 Chinese National Sports Directors Conference concluded in Beijing on Wednesday, marking a significant moment in the nation’s sports development journey.

During the conference, attendees reviewed the remarkable accomplishments of Chinese athletes over the past year and assessed the overall progress in China’s sports sector. The discussions focused on analyzing the current landscape, outlining missions for forthcoming sports development initiatives, and setting priorities for the 2025 agenda.

Gao Zhidan, director of China’s General Administration of Sport, emphasized the importance of the upcoming year, noting that 2025 marks the culmination of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. “Sports administrations at all levels will strive to ensure a successful conclusion to the plan next year,” Gao stated. He highlighted Team China’s preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games as a top priority, underlining the nation’s commitment to excellence on the global stage.

In addition, the first National Youth Games for Football, Basketball, and Volleyball of the People’s Republic of China took place in Changsha and Yueyang in central China’s Hunan Province in late November. Elite young athletes from across the country participated in the competitions, showcasing the burgeoning talent and fostering the growth of youth sports.

“We are proud and excited about the success Chinese athletes achieved in 2024,” said Song Kai, president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA). “Meanwhile, we in the football sector feel both pressure and motivation. We aim to learn from the Chinese Olympic delegation’s excellent performance at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris to help improve and rejuvenate Chinese football.”

The conference’s outcomes reflect a concerted effort to build on past successes and address future challenges, with a clear roadmap set for advancing China’s sports development in the coming years.
