Chinese Mainland Explores ‘One Country, Two Systems’ Approach for Taiwan

The Chinese mainland has announced a renewed commitment to exploring the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” framework in Taiwan, emphasizing a comprehensive consideration of the island’s realities and the sentiments of its residents. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.

“We will continue to unite with compatriots in Taiwan and actively explore the Taiwan solution to advance peaceful reunification,” Chen stated. He highlighted that the views and proposals of people from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will be taken into full consideration in this endeavor.

Chen expressed confidence that the people of Taiwan will develop a better understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. “It will play its full role as compatriots on both sides work together toward peaceful reunification,” he added.

Reflecting on the achievements since Macao’s return to China, Chen noted that the 24th anniversary serves as a testament to the success and vitality of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. “The great achievements of Macao since its return have proven to the world that the cause of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ has distinctive institutional strengths and strong vitality, and it is feasible, effective, and well-received by the people,” he said.
