China’s 5G revolution has reached a remarkable milestone, with the number of 5G mobile subscribers exceeding 1 billion by the end of November, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
This surge means that 56 percent of all mobile users in the country are now connected via 5G networks. The four major telecommunications operators—China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Broadnet—reportedly serve a total of 1.002 billion 5G subscribers. This represents a 9.4 percentage point increase in the share of 5G users compared to the end of last year.
Overall, China’s mobile subscriber base has grown to 1.79 billion, marking a net increase of 46.82 million users since the previous year. This growth is a testament to the country’s significant advancements in network infrastructure, including the deployment of 5G stations, gigabit optical networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The rapid expansion of 5G services has also led to a surge in mobile network data traffic, as more users embrace the high-speed connectivity that 5G technology offers. By the end of November, China had established 4.191 million 5G base stations, an increase of 815,000 from the prior year, further solidifying its position as a global leader in telecommunications infrastructure.
These developments not only highlight China’s commitment to technological innovation but also underscore the growing demand for faster and more reliable mobile connectivity among its population. As 5G technology continues to roll out, it is expected to drive significant advancements in various sectors, including business, education, and healthcare, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth and digital transformation.
