Macao Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Return to China with Flag-Raising Ceremony

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held a flag-raising ceremony on Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its return to China. The event was marked by a sense of pride and unity among residents, reflecting on the region’s progress over the past quarter-century.

The ceremony took place at a prominent city location, attended by government officials, community leaders, and residents. The Chinese and Macao SAR flags were hoisted as the national anthem played, symbolizing the strong ties between Macao and the Chinese mainland.

The Chief Executive of Macao SAR addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the support from the Chinese mainland and highlighting the achievements made under the “one country, two systems” principle.

“Over the past 25 years, Macao has witnessed significant economic growth and social development,” the Chief Executive said. “We will continue to work closely with the mainland to ensure prosperity and stability for our region.”

The anniversary serves as a reminder of Macao’s integration with the Chinese mainland since its return in 1999. Residents expressed optimism about the future, citing increased opportunities in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

The flag-raising ceremony is one of several events planned to celebrate this milestone anniversary. Festivities include cultural performances, exhibitions, and community activities that showcase Macao’s rich heritage and its dynamic role within the region.
