Former NYC Deputy Mayor Praises Beijing’s Urban Governance

At the 2024 Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints, J. Phillip Thompson, former Deputy Mayor of New York City, shared his positive impressions of Beijing’s urban governance.

He commended Beijing’s effective staff training programs, highlighting the importance of a well-trained workforce in achieving successful governance. Thompson was particularly impressed by the city’s rapid response capabilities in addressing public complaints, which he sees as a model for other global cities.

“Beijing’s approach to urban governance demonstrates a commitment to efficiency and public service,” Thompson noted.

He also emphasized the friendly nature of both Beijing and New York residents, suggesting that this common ground could foster stronger friendships and increased cooperation between the two cities.

“By learning from each other’s experiences, Beijing and New York can enhance their urban management strategies and improve the quality of life for their citizens,” he added.

Thompson’s remarks underscore the potential for international collaboration in addressing urban challenges and enhancing governance practices.
