Wang Yi Calls for Stable, Lasting China-Japan Relations

China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, has called for collaborative efforts with Japan to promote stable and lasting bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of upholding regional and international peace and stability. His remarks were made in a video speech at the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum on Wednesday.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, highlighted the historical ties between China and Japan, noting their exchange history spans over 2,000 years and that it has been over 50 years since the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

“A China-Japan relationship with the right development direction is of great and positive significance not only to both countries and their peoples but also to the peace and development of the region and the world,” Wang stated. He urged both sides to be guided by the important consensus reached by their leaders, adhere to the original aspirations of their relations, follow the right path, seek common ground, and coordinate actions to promote stable and lasting bilateral relations.

Wang emphasized the need for both countries to understand the correct positioning of their bilateral relations. “China has always regarded Japan as an important cooperation partner and hopes that Japan can view China’s development objectively and rationally,” he said. He expressed hope that Japan would work with China to comprehensively advance their strategic, mutually beneficial relations and implement the important consensus that the two countries should be cooperative partners and not pose a threat to each other.

The forum serves as a platform for dialogue between China and Japan, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. Wang’s remarks underscore China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan and contributing to regional stability.
