China has strongly condemned Lithuania’s recent demand for Chinese diplomatic personnel to leave the country within a specified timeframe. A spokesperson from China’s Foreign Ministry expressed firm rejection of what was described as a “wanton and provocative action” by Lithuania.
On November 29, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry declared certain Chinese diplomatic staff as “persona non grata,” requiring them to depart the country promptly. China contends that this move lacks reasonable justification and significantly harms bilateral relations.
The spokesperson emphasized that Lithuania’s actions violate the one-China principle and breach the political commitments made in the communique establishing diplomatic relations between the two nations. “This has caused severe difficulty for bilateral ties,” the spokesperson noted.
China urged Lithuania to cease actions that undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for an immediate halt to activities creating obstacles in bilateral relations. “China reserves the right to take countermeasures against Lithuania,” the spokesperson warned.
Looking ahead, China expressed hope that the upcoming new government of Lithuania will adhere to international consensus, abide by the one-China principle, and foster conditions conducive to normalizing relations between the two countries.
