China and Tajikistan Pledge to Deepen All-Round Cooperation

In a significant move to enhance bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin on Sunday in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The meeting underscored both nations’ commitment to deepening all-round cooperation and strengthening mutual support.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed China’s support for Tajikistan’s pursuit of a development path tailored to its own national conditions. “China firmly opposes any external interference in the internal affairs of Tajikistan,” Wang emphasized, highlighting the importance of sovereignty and self-determination.

The Chinese foreign minister called for both countries to bolster each other’s development and revitalization efforts through tangible cooperation outcomes. “By working together, we can achieve mutual prosperity and contribute to regional stability,” Wang added.

Sirojiddin Muhriddin, attending the fifth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Chengdu, expressed deep gratitude for China’s substantial support in improving the livelihoods of the Tajik people. “China’s assistance has been instrumental in advancing our socioeconomic development,” Muhriddin noted.

The Tajik foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s unwavering adherence to the one-China principle, a cornerstone of Sino-Tajik relations. “Tajikistan will never change its position on this matter,” Muhriddin stated. He also expressed eagerness to deepen all-round cooperation with China and welcomed increased investment from Chinese enterprises. “We look forward to more Chinese companies investing in Tajikistan, which will further strengthen our economic ties and bring mutual benefits,” he said.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers signifies a continued commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations and promoting shared interests in the region. As part of the broader engagement within the China-Central Asia framework, both countries are poised to enhance collaboration in various sectors, including infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchanges.

The fifth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting serves as a critical platform for regional partners to discuss issues of common concern and explore opportunities for cooperation. The deepening ties between China and Tajikistan reflect a shared vision for prosperity and stability in Central Asia.
