China and Brazil Experts Explore Global Impact of Chinese Modernization

From November 22 to 25, Chinese and Brazilian experts convened in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo for a series of academic exchanges focused on “Chinese modernization.” The event, organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), aimed to explore the global impact of Chinese modernization on economic growth, poverty alleviation, and China-Latin America cooperation.

The gathering featured prominent speakers from both nations, including Zhang Guanzi, secretary-general of the National Council of High-end Think Tanks; Chai Yu, director of the Institute of Latin American Studies; Du Zhixiong, Party secretary of the Institute of Rural Development; and Li Xuesong, director of the Institute of Economic Research. Their discussions delved into the significance of Chinese modernization, China-Latin America economic and trade cooperation, the contribution of Chinese modernization to global economic growth, and China’s approach to poverty reduction.

A highlight of the event was the signing of cooperation agreements between the Institute of Latin American Studies of the CASS and two leading Brazilian universities—the State University of Rio de Janeiro and the State University of Sao Paulo. These agreements aim to deepen academic exchanges and collaboration on research and scholar visits, strengthening ties between China and Brazil.

In his speech, Zhang emphasized that understanding China requires an understanding of Chinese modernization. He highlighted that Chinese modernization possesses unique characteristics shaped by nearly a century of hard work and the guidance of the Communist Party of China. Zhang noted that socialist China has successfully forged a new path of modernization, achieving rapid economic development and long-term social stability, which he referred to as the “two miracles” that have profoundly transformed the nation.

The event fostered valuable exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Brazilian experts, underscoring the importance of cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting shared prosperity.
