Raging Waves Destroy Last Shelter for Gaza’s Refugees

The arrival of heavy rain has further exacerbated the already dire situation for Gaza’s refugees. On the beach west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, continuous downpours have led to the destruction of numerous tents as rising tides sweep them away.

These refugees, many of whom have been displaced multiple times due to ongoing conflicts, now find themselves with nowhere to turn. The relentless waves have not only taken their temporary shelters but also the few possessions they had left.

Umm Ahmed, a refugee, shared her harrowing experience. “My children nearly drowned in the sea,” she told CGTN. “Almost all our belongings have been destroyed. With prices soaring, the children are left to go hungry, lacking clothing and blankets.”

She lamented the desperation of their situation, saying, “There is no place for us. We had moved to the beach. Where do we go now?”

The combination of natural forces and human conflict has left the refugees in a perilous state, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and a lasting solution to their plight.
