Slovenia Aims to Deepen Agricultural Cooperation with the Chinese Mainland

Slovenia is seeking to bolster its agricultural and food industry ties with the Chinese mainland, aiming to share its unique culinary specialties and premium agricultural products with a broader global market. Emphasizing an ecological, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle, Slovenia’s offerings align closely with global trends in conscious consumption.

In an exclusive interview with CGTN’s Zhang Meng, Mateja Calusic, Slovenia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food, highlighted the potential for collaboration between Slovenia and the Chinese mainland. “Our agricultural products are not only about quality but also about sustainability and tradition,” Calusic stated. “We see great opportunities in cooperating with the Chinese mainland to promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles.”

Calusic underscored the importance of mutual understanding and exchange in deepening agricultural trade. She noted that sharing knowledge and best practices could benefit both sides, particularly in areas such as organic farming, food safety, and technological innovation in agriculture.

Addressing global challenges, Calusic commended the Chinese mainland’s recent proposal at COP29, which called for the international community to collectively accelerate the global energy transition in a fair, orderly, and equitable manner. “Climate change is a shared responsibility,” she said. “We must work together to develop solutions that are inclusive and effective.”

She emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change challenges, particularly in the context of agriculture and food security. “Our agricultural sectors are on the front lines of climate change impacts,” Calusic explained. “By collaborating, we can develop resilient practices that safeguard our food systems for future generations.”

Calusic expressed optimism about the future of Slovenia-China relations, envisioning a partnership that extends beyond trade to include cultural exchange and joint efforts in sustainability initiatives. “We look forward to strengthening our connections with the Chinese mainland,” she concluded. “Together, we can promote a healthier, more sustainable world.”
