Lee Hsien Loong Endorses Lawrence Wong to Lead Singapore’s Ruling Party

Singapore’s political landscape is poised for a significant shift as Lee Hsien Loong, secretary-general of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), announced his support for current Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to become the next party leader.

Speaking at the PAP Conference on Sunday, Lee, who is also Singapore’s senior minister, stated that he would propose Wong’s election as secretary-general to the new central executive committee. Lee emphasized his continued commitment to the party, expressing his intention to remain in the committee in a supporting and advisory capacity.

Lawrence Wong, who has served as deputy secretary-general since 2022, addressed party members at the conference, highlighting the PAP’s dedication to evolving alongside Singapore’s changing society. He affirmed the party’s commitment to core values such as honesty, integrity, and incorruptibility.

“We must refresh ourselves to meet the needs of our people,” Wong said. “By upholding our principles and working tirelessly, we can earn the trust and mandate to govern.”

As the leader poised to guide the PAP into the next general election, Wong called upon party members to “work hard for every vote” to ensure continued progress for Singapore.

Founded in 1954, the PAP has been the ruling party of Singapore since its independence in 1965, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s development and prosperity.
