China’s Tianhe Supercomputer Tops Global Big Data Green Graph 500 Ranking

China’s new-generation Tianhe supercomputer has claimed the top spot on the latest Big Data Green Graph 500 ranking, the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin announced on Wednesday.

First released in 2010, the Graph 500 list is the most authoritative international benchmark for evaluating supercomputer performance in graph computation—a critical component in big data analytics and artificial intelligence.

The Tianhe supercomputer achieved an impressive 6,320.24 MTEPS\/W (million traversed edges per second per watt), securing its position as the world’s most energy-efficient system for handling complex data-intensive tasks. The last time Tianhe led the list was in July 2021.

“This top ranking signifies that the Tianhe supercomputer has reached international breakthroughs in processing complex data analyses,” said Meng Xiangfei, chief scientist at the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. “It will provide key support for advancing new-generation intelligent technologies.”

As the demand for large-scale data analysis continues to grow, graph computing has become an essential pillar in big data and artificial intelligence fields globally. The Tianhe supercomputer’s achievement underscores China’s leading role in developing high-performance computing technologies that can tackle increasingly complex computational challenges.
