Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The meeting signifies a milestone in the 32-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations, highlighting their commitment to deepening mutual political trust and comprehensive cooperation.
Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping to President Aliyev. He emphasized that since establishing diplomatic ties, China and Azerbaijan have seen their relationship mature and political trust strengthen continuously.
Reflecting on the recent meeting between Presidents Xi and Aliyev in Astana in July, where they elevated China-Azerbaijan relations to a strategic partnership, Ding underscored the importance of implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state. He expressed China’s willingness to work with Azerbaijan in the spirit of sincere mutual trust and mutual benefit, aiming to strengthen political guidance and deepen cooperation to achieve their respective development and revitalization goals.
Ding extended China’s congratulations on Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku. He expressed readiness to collaborate with Azerbaijan to contribute jointly to international efforts in building a beautiful planet and realizing sustainable development worldwide. Ding stated that China values Azerbaijan’s significant role in international and regional affairs and is prepared to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative alongside Azerbaijan to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
President Aliyev, in response, asked Ding to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. He emphasized that Azerbaijan and China are true strategic partners with steadily progressing bilateral cooperation and frequent high-level exchanges. Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan places great importance on its relationship with China and supports the major initiatives proposed by President Xi. He expressed Azerbaijan’s willingness to collaborate actively with China on the Belt and Road Initiative and expand cooperation in areas such as trans-Caspian international transport, trade, investment, industry, and renewable energy to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.
Aliyev added that Azerbaijan is committed to strengthening international cooperation with China, supporting multilateralism, promoting inter-civilizational dialogue, and advancing fairness and justice in the international community.
