Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that he and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte will attend the inauguration of Chancay Port via video link during his visit to Peru for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima and a state visit to the Latin American country.
In a signed article published on Thursday in the Peruvian media outlet El Peruano, President Xi highlighted the significance of the Chancay Port project. He stated that the completion of Chancay Port will enable Peru to establish a multi-dimensional, diverse, and efficient network of connectivity extending from the coast to inland regions, and from Peru to Latin America and the Caribbean.
“It will also help build an Inca Trail of the New Era with Chancay Port as its starting point, thus boosting the overall development and integration of the region,” Xi wrote.
President Xi called for joint efforts between China and Peru to ensure the success of Chancay Port from construction through to operation. He emphasized that the route from Chancay to Shanghai will lead China, Peru, and Latin America toward common development and prosperity.
The Chancay Port project, developed by a Chinese company in partnership with Peru, is expected to enhance trade links between Asia and South America, promoting economic growth and regional integration.
The inauguration of Chancay Port marks a significant milestone in Sino-Peruvian relations and underscores China’s growing engagement with Latin America. The port is poised to become a key hub for maritime trade between Asia and South America, reducing shipping times and facilitating increased trade volumes.
For Asian investors and businesses, Chancay Port opens new opportunities for market expansion and supply chain optimization. By connecting directly with Peru’s extensive network, companies can tap into emerging markets across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Academics and researchers note that this development could reshape regional trade dynamics, fostering greater economic cooperation and cultural exchange between Asia and Latin America.
