U.S. Professor Discovers Rich Heritage and Modern Wonders in China’s Henan Province

Timothy Burns, a professor at Baylor University in the United States, recently embarked on a journey to central China’s Henan Province. Known as the ‘cradle of Chinese civilization,’ Henan captivated Burns with its profound historical heritage and rapid modernization.

Henan, meaning ‘south of the river,’ lies south of China’s Yellow River. The province has been the political, economic, and cultural center of China for over 3,000 years, serving as the capital for more than 20 dynasties. It is also the birthplace of the four great inventions of ancient China. Burns was deeply impressed by these cultural signifiers and their significance in the history of Chinese civilization.

During his visit, Burns witnessed firsthand the blend of tradition and innovation that characterizes modern China. He was particularly amazed by the quietness of Chinese electric bikes compared to motorcycles in the U.S., noting how riders smoothly navigate in their designated lanes. ‘Chinese are advancing rapidly in things like AI, and that will be needed for the new energy sources, so I congratulate China,’ Burns remarked.

Burns’s observations highlight China’s strides in technological advancement and sustainable transportation. His journey through Henan underscores the province’s role in preserving China’s rich history while embracing the future through innovation.
