Zhuhai, Guangdong Province—Chinese aircraft manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) announced on Tuesday that it has secured orders for 130 aircraft on the first day of the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China) held in Zhuhai, south China’s Guangdong Province.
The substantial orders underscore the growing confidence in COMAC’s aircraft within the global aviation market. The deals involve multiple models from COMAC’s lineup, reflecting the company’s expanding reach in both domestic and international markets.
In a significant move, COMAC also announced the rebranding of its ARJ21 regional jet to the C909. This change aligns the aircraft with the company’s naming convention, joining the C919 and C929 in COMAC’s family of passenger jets. The rebranding is aimed at enhancing brand recognition and unifying the company’s product line as it continues to compete on the global stage.
"The new designation of the C909 represents a strategic step in our global branding efforts," a COMAC spokesperson said. "By standardizing our aircraft naming, we aim to strengthen our market presence and make our aircraft more recognizable to customers around the world."
Airshow China, held biennially in Zhuhai, is a major event that showcases China’s advancements in aerospace technology. The exhibition serves as a platform for international cooperation and for Chinese companies like COMAC to unveil new developments and secure business deals.
Industry analysts view COMAC’s achievements at the airshow as a reflection of China’s growing capabilities in the aviation sector. The company’s expanding order book signifies rising demand for its aircraft, particularly as airlines look for alternatives in the regional and narrow-body market segments.
The influx of new orders and the strategic rebranding highlight COMAC’s ambition to become a major player in the global aerospace industry, challenging established manufacturers and contributing to the diversification of aircraft options available to airlines worldwide.
