Chinese Legislator Calls for Global Solidarity at G20 Summit in Brazil

Brasilia, November 8, 2024 — Wu Weihua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), has called for strengthened global cooperation to address contemporary challenges. Speaking at the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) in Brazil, Wu emphasized the NPC’s readiness to enhance collaboration with legislative bodies worldwide to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Addressing delegates during the three-day summit from November 6 to 8, Wu noted that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. He urged G20 members to bolster solidarity and work collectively to tackle pressing global issues. “In the face of unprecedented challenges, legislative bodies must play a pivotal role in fostering cooperation and shaping a better future,” Wu stated.

On the sidelines of the summit, Wu met with Brazilian Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco and Arthur Lira, President of the Chamber of Deputies. He highlighted the sound and stable advancement of the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership under the guidance of the heads of state of both countries. Wu expressed the NPC’s commitment to deepening multi-level and multi-sector exchanges and cooperation with Brazil’s Congress to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

The Brazilian leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the one-China policy and expressed dedication to advancing Brazil-China relations. They acknowledged the importance of enhancing exchanges and cooperation across various fields, including trade, technology, and cultural exchanges.

The G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit serves as a platform for legislative leaders to discuss global issues and contribute to the G20 agenda. This year’s summit focused on themes such as sustainable development, inclusive growth, and innovation, aligning with the broader goals of fostering international collaboration.
