Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Beijing on Thursday, emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations. Xi referred to Malaysia as China’s good neighbor, friend, and partner.

Since Anwar’s first visit to China in March last year after assuming office, Xi noted that both countries have maintained close interactions at all levels. They have advanced mutually beneficial cooperation across various fronts, bringing tangible benefits to their peoples.

Both China and Malaysia are at crucial stages of national development and rejuvenation. Xi suggested that the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Malaysia Year of Friendship present an opportunity for both nations to work together. This collaboration aims to build a more concrete China-Malaysia community with a shared future, achieve development goals, and contribute to regional prosperity and stability.

The Chinese President stressed the importance of developing a high-level strategic partnership. He called for maintaining close high-level exchanges, strengthening the exchange of governance experience, enhancing political mutual trust, and firmly supporting each other’s core interests and major concerns. Xi affirmed China’s support for Malaysia in maintaining strategic autonomy and choosing a development path suited to its national conditions.
