Ceasefire negotiations aimed at deescalating the conflict in the Gaza Strip resumed on Sunday in Doha, Qatar. Despite the renewed efforts, expectations for substantial progress remain low. Representatives from Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and Israel participated in the discussions. However, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) did not send a representative.
The conflict in the region has intensified, leading to tragic consequences. At least 77 Palestinians were killed in a strike on Beit Lahiya, a town in northern Gaza. The violence has also escalated along the Lebanon-Israel border. According to the Lebanese health ministry, at least 60 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley.
The ongoing violence underscores the urgency for a ceasefire agreement as regional tensions continue to rise. The absence of Hamas from the talks raises concerns about the potential effectiveness of the negotiations.
