As the 100-day countdown approaches, excitement is building for the 2025 Asian Winter Games set to take place in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. On Tuesday, the organizing committee shared significant updates on the preparations during a press conference, signaling China’s readiness to host the grand event.
Scheduled from February 7 to 14, 2025, the Games will welcome more than 1,500 athletes from 34 countries and regions. Competitors will vie for glory across 64 events in 11 disciplines spanning six sports, showcasing the very best of Asian winter sports talent.
China, as the host nation, is set to make a strong impression by fielding over 170 athletes participating in all 64 events. Zhou Jinqiang, vice president of the organizing committee, confirmed, “Our athletes are eager to compete on home ice and snow, and we are proud to participate in every event.”
The venues are primed and ready, with all 13 confirmed for the competitions. Harbin will host the ice events across five venues, while the snow events will unfold in Yabuli across eight venues. Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Han Shengjian, highlighted the sustainable efforts made, stating, “All venues have been transformed using environment-friendly and low-carbon technologies, reflecting our commitment to a green Games.”
The 2025 Games are not only a stage for seasoned winter sports nations but also a platform for newcomers. Athletes from Japan and the Republic of Korea will compete in all 64 events, continuing their strong winter sports traditions. Notably, Cambodia and Saudi Arabia have registered to participate in the Asian Winter Games for the first time in history, marking a significant expansion in the event’s diversity and inclusivity.
