China Shows Commitment to High-Quality BRICS Cooperation

At the BRICS Plus leaders’ dialogue on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the “collective rise of the Global South” as a distinctive feature of global transformation. This year marks a historic expansion for BRICS, which now represents nearly half of the world’s population and approximately 30 percent of global GDP. This expansion underscores the growing economic power and political prominence of Global South countries.

Amid global financial instability, geopolitical tensions, and cultural divisions, enhanced cooperation among BRICS nations is deemed vital to address shared global challenges. China has played a pivotal role not only as an advocate but also as a significant contributor to promoting common security, prosperity, and harmony among Global South countries.

China initiated the BRICS Plus cooperation model and promoted the establishment of the BRICS New Development Bank. By introducing a series of proposals, China has injected new impetus into deeper BRICS collaboration. Furthermore, China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Development Initiative (GDI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) have been warmly received by countries in the Global South.

“We should come forward together to form a stabilizing force for peace,” President Xi urged during the dialogue. He also recalled that different Palestinian factions had met in Beijing in July and reconciled under China’s mediation, marking a key step toward peace in the Middle East.

The emphasis on unity and cooperation reflects China’s commitment to fostering a multipolar world where emerging economies have a significant voice in global affairs. As BRICS nations continue to collaborate, their collective efforts are expected to contribute positively to global stability and development.
