China’s Grain Output to Exceed 700 Million Tonnes in 2024 for the First Time

China is set to achieve a historic milestone in 2024 as its grain output is projected to surpass 700 million tonnes for the first time, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The announcement was made on Friday, signaling a significant boost in the nation’s agricultural production.

This anticipated record-breaking harvest follows nine consecutive years of maintaining grain output above 650 million tonnes. The consistent growth underscores China’s efforts to enhance food security and stabilize its agricultural sector.

The Ministry reported that both the summer grain and early rice harvests have been successfully completed. Summer grain output totaled 149.78 million tonnes, marking an increase of approximately 3.63 million tonnes compared to the previous year. Early rice production remained stable at around 28.2 million tonnes, reflecting steady agricultural performance.

Meanwhile, the autumn grain harvest is well underway, with about 82.5 percent of crops harvested as of Thursday. The Ministry expressed optimism about achieving a bumper harvest this year, further contributing to the projected total output.

The significant increase in grain production is expected to bolster China’s food supply, support economic stability, and contribute to global food markets. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of China’s agricultural policies and advancements in farming technologies.
