China has expressed firm opposition to any country’s provocations and threats to its sovereignty and security under the guise of freedom of navigation, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.
Speaking at a daily press briefing on Monday, Lin responded to inquiries about the recent transit of the U.S. destroyer Higgins and the Canadian frigate Vancouver through the Taiwan Strait on Sunday.
“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” Lin emphasized, noting that the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has addressed the situation.
“The Taiwan question is not an issue of freedom of navigation but concerns China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.
