At the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, on Friday to reinforce the longstanding friendship and cooperation between China and Cuba.
“China has always placed Cuba in a special position in its foreign relations,” Wang Yi remarked during the meeting. He emphasized that it is an unwavering position of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government to maintain, consolidate, and develop the relations between the two nations. Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted China\u2019s willingness to work alongside Cuba to promote the steady and long-term development of a China-Cuba community with a shared future.
The two countries have a history of mutual support on international and multilateral stages. “China and Cuba have always supported each other, jointly defending the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, upholding international fairness and justice, and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries,” Wang Yi stated. He reiterated China\u2019s opposition to the U.S. blockade and sanctions against Cuba and affirmed continued support for Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and dignity.
Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla expressed gratitude for China\u2019s assistance in Cuba\u2019s economic and social development. “The Cuban side appreciates China\u2019s assistance and its firm support for Cuba\u2019s legitimate rights and interests on international occasions,” Rodriguez said. He reaffirmed Cuba\u2019s steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to the use of human rights issues to interfere in China\u2019s internal affairs.
The meeting underscores the deep-rooted partnership between China and Cuba, reflecting a shared commitment to principles of sovereignty, mutual respect, and collaboration on the global stage.
