Meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday during the 79th UN General Assembly, Wang Yi emphasized China's dedication to multilateralism and global collaboration.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, congratulated the UN on the successful convening of the Summit of the Future. He praised the adoption of the Pact for the Future, describing it as a document that reflects the common aspirations of most countries and embodies the principles of multilateralism.
"China stands ready to enhance cooperation with the UN to translate the vision of the Pact for the Future into reality and chart a better future for humankind," Wang Yi stated. He highlighted the importance of upholding the authority of the UN, especially amid an increasingly complicated international landscape and highlighted global challenges and risks.
Wang Yi outlined China's full support for the UN's work, including reforms of the current international financial framework and the UN's role as the main channel coordinating the application of artificial intelligence in global governance. He emphasized China's commitment to facilitating the UN's efforts in resolving the Ukraine crisis and the conflict in Gaza, aiming to better maintain world peace and security.
UN Secretary-General Guterres expressed appreciation for China's long-term support and active contribution to the Summit of the Future. He urged all parties to put their commitments into action and jointly implement the hard-won Pact for the Future.
Guterres called on the international community to join hands in opposing protectionism. He expressed confidence that China will continue to play an important role in international affairs and affirmed the UN's dedication to sparing no effort for peace and fulfilling its responsibility for development.
