Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with the nation’s Paralympic delegation at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday, applauding their exceptional performance at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.
Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements, noting that China topped both the gold medal and overall medal tallies at the games.
“Your perseverance and determination not only brought sporting success but also instilled a great sense of pride across the country,” Li remarked.
He emphasized that sports competitions require not just physical strength and skills, but more importantly, willpower and spirit. “The exceptional accomplishments of our Paralympic delegation reflect the remarkable progress in China’s endeavors to support people with disabilities,” Li said. “You have vividly showcased the strength, spirit, and image of China in the new era.”
“The nation and its people are proud of you,” he added.
Li encouraged the athletes to remain humble and continue striving for greater heights. He also called upon society to enhance efforts in supporting causes for people with disabilities, improve social security systems, and bolster support services.
