The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has officially accepted Sam Hou Fai as the sole candidate for the upcoming chief executive election. The commission issued a notice on Wednesday confirming his candidacy after a thorough eligibility review.
According to the commission, the eligibility review was completed on Tuesday. The Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Macao SAR assessed Sam’s qualifications, affirming his sincere support for the Macao SAR Basic Law and his loyalty to the People’s Republic of China and its Macao SAR.
The notice also included a list of 386 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee who have nominated Sam for the position.
As per the Chief Executive Election Law of the Macao SAR, nominated candidates and members of the election committee have one day from the notice’s publication to lodge any appeals. If no objections are received, the electoral commission will announce the final list of accepted candidates on Friday.
The chief executive election is scheduled to take place on October 13, marking a significant moment in Macao’s political landscape as residents await the selection of their next leader.
