China is gearing up for a significant surge in both inbound and outbound travel during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. According to the National Immigration Administration (NIA), a daily average of 1.8 million passenger trips is expected during the holiday period, marking a 21.9 percent increase from last year. The NIA anticipates peaks in travel at exit-entry ports on September 14 and 17.
Major international airports across the country are preparing for the increased passenger volumes. Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport are projected to handle daily entry and exit volumes of 42,000, 95,000, 42,000, and 16,000 trips, respectively. In addition, passenger flows at land ports near Hong Kong and Macao are expected to rise significantly.
In response to the anticipated surge, the NIA has implemented special arrangements to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth exit-entry services at ports during the holiday. Border inspection authorities nationwide have been instructed to strengthen the monitoring of traveler volumes and port operations, providing timely updates to travelers. Sufficient staffing and security measures are being put in place to keep customs processing times under 30 minutes.
Border inspection authorities are also coordinating with joint inspection units at ports and relevant local departments to manage traveler flow and provide traffic support during peak hours. Travelers are advised to stay informed about port traffic and customs clearance conditions and to verify their documents before traveling.
