Hainan Province Resumes 70% of Construction Projects Following Typhoon Yagi

Construction efforts are swiftly resuming across China’s Hainan Province in the wake of Super Typhoon Yagi. The provincial government announced on Wednesday that nearly 70 percent of construction projects have recommenced operations.

As of Tuesday, work had resumed on 1,979 out of 2,860 projects under construction across the island. This rapid recovery highlights the resilience and determination of the local communities and authorities.

Haikou City, the provincial capital, experienced significant damage from Typhoon Yagi, with the Wuyuan River Stadium among the hardest hit. In response, local authorities quickly organized rescue operations. Power crews worked tirelessly to restore electricity, sanitation workers cleared debris, and volunteers provided aid to affected residents. The community rallied together, donating supplies and offering support to those in need.

By Wednesday morning, nearly all large supermarkets and farmers’ markets in Haikou had reopened, and most gas stations were operational. Major roads and public transportation services had returned to normal, schools resumed classes, and daily life was gradually returning to usual.

The provincial government has pledged to assist over 90 percent of enterprises in key industrial parks located in areas less affected by the typhoon to resume production by September 15. By September 25, the production resumption rate of enterprises in key industrial parks across the entire province is expected to exceed 95 percent.

Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Hainan last week, causing widespread damage across the island. The swift recovery efforts underscore the province’s commitment to rebuilding and returning to normalcy.
