High in the mountainous region of Yiwangxi Town in Changsha, Hunan Province, Wang Tianming has spent the last 30 years bridging the gap between isolated villages and the wider world. Traversing over 400,000 kilometers, Wang has delivered more than 500,000 pieces of mail, earning him the affectionate title of the “Living Post Office” among locals.
Inspired by his father, who also served as a postal worker, Wang took on the mantle of connecting his community to the outside world. “My father always believed that every letter carried not just words, but hopes and dreams,” Wang recalls. Following in his footsteps, he committed himself to ensuring that even the most remote households remained informed and connected.
Beyond his duties as a mail carrier, Wang transformed his modest delivery facility into a communal hub. He has seen how access to information and communication has gradually improved the lives of the villagers. “When I started, many places didn’t have roads or electricity. Now, things are changing,” he notes. Yet, he remains a vital link for those still beyond the reach of modern infrastructure.
