President Xi and Sudan’s Al-Burhan Strengthen Strategic Partnership at FOCAC Summit

In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, on Friday during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.

President Xi emphasized China’s unwavering support for Sudan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, and security. He highlighted the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, expressing China’s commitment to nurturing the longstanding friendship and mutual trust.

“China treasures its traditional friendship with Sudan and is eager to enhance exchanges and cooperation across various fields,” Xi stated. He expressed hope that both countries would actively implement the outcomes of the FOCAC summit, aiming to elevate their strategic partnership to new heights.

President Xi also conveyed his anticipation for Sudan to restore peace and stability swiftly, enabling the nation to return to its development trajectory. He assured that China would continue to advocate for Sudan in international arenas such as the United Nations, striving for a favorable external environment conducive to a political solution to Sudan’s internal issues.

Chairman Al-Burhan acknowledged the profound and friendly relations between Sudan and China. He lauded China’s contributions to Sudan’s economic development through numerous infrastructure projects that have significantly improved the livelihoods of the Sudanese people.

“The people of Sudan hold deep gratitude and respect for China,” Al-Burhan remarked, reaffirming Sudan’s firm adherence to the one-China policy and its opposition to any actions undermining China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He expressed Sudan’s readiness to collaborate closely with China to implement the FOCAC summit outcomes and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The meeting between the two leaders underscores the importance of China-Africa relations and sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the coming years, promising mutual benefits and a strengthened alliance.
