Xi Jinping Vows Stronger China-UN Partnership for Africa’s Peace and Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations (UN) to promote peace, stability, development, and revitalization in Africa. The declaration came during a meeting on Thursday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Beijing, ahead of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

President Xi underscored China’s dedication to its relationship with Africa, emphasizing that China’s cooperation with the continent is grounded in mutual benefit and devoid of selfish interests. “I proposed the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, with the hope that people across the world, including those in Africa, can enjoy a better life,” Xi stated.

He expressed appreciation for the UN’s consistent focus on Africa and highlighted how China’s modernization efforts would create more opportunities globally. “China’s modernization will create more opportunities for countries around the world and provide fresh momentum for maintaining global peace and promoting shared development,” Xi said.

The meeting with Guterres signifies a strengthening of ties between China, the UN, and African nations, aiming to foster collaborative initiatives that address key challenges on the continent.

The 2024 FOCAC Summit is expected to further solidify partnerships and outline concrete steps towards achieving sustainable development goals in Africa.
