Chinese Medical Innovations Dazzle Ghanaian Health Sector at Accra Summit

At a three-day medical industry summit and exhibition held in Accra from Monday to Wednesday, the Ghanaian medical community was captivated by the latest Chinese medical technology on display. Organized by the Health Community of West Africa, a Ghana-based Chinese firm aimed at enhancing healthcare capacities across West Africa, the event showcased cutting-edge innovations that promise to transform the region’s healthcare landscape.

Chinese manufacturers and distributors presented a range of advanced medical equipment, including laboratory devices, dental and ophthalmic technology, acupuncture tools, ventilators, and scanners. The exhibition also featured state-of-the-art oxygen concentrators, analyzers, and generators, with experts demonstrating their functionalities to eager Ghanaian and West African medical professionals.

Zhongshan Tsingair Electric Technology Co., Ltd., hailing from southern China, highlighted its latest advancements in oxygen therapy. Displaying various types of oxygen concentrators suitable for both large health facilities and in-home care, the company’s offerings attracted significant attention. Wang Lixin, the company’s overseas marketing manager, expressed enthusiasm about the reception their products received.

“This is our first time coming to Ghana, and we’ve made some friends here. It is an honor to attend this summit,” Wang said. “We expect future cooperation with local hospitals and agents. We will do our best with our professional equipment to support local healthcare in Ghana.”

Zetop, another Chinese company specializing in medical equipment, also participated in the event. Jiang Qian, Zetop’s foreign trade manager, was excited by the interest shown by hospital representatives who visited their stand.

“I am glad to see that the Ghanaian market has many opportunities for cooperation between Ghanaian and Chinese companies and health institutions,” Jiang noted. “We want to bring China-Africa medical cooperation into a bright future.”

The enthusiasm was mirrored by Ghanaian health professionals. Sandra Ashong, president of the Ghana Association of Medical Herbalists and head of the complementary and alternative medicine unit at LEKMA Hospital in Accra, was impressed by the traditional Chinese medicine tools and medications showcased.

“What is happening here is enlightening. China’s medical technology has advanced. Considering the various items and medical equipment on display here, I think China has gone far,” Ashong remarked. “There are prospects for boosting the win-win medical cooperation between Ghana and China. Not just me, but members of my association who were here have learned a lot, and we hope that more of these technologies and skills will come into the country to improve healthcare.”

Similarly, Margaret-Mary Bortsie, a biomedical engineer with the Ghana Health Service, was amazed by the advanced lifesaving healthcare technologies presented by the Chinese companies.

“The oxygen concentrators I saw here, for instance, are fully digital and portable, unlike the analog products we have in Ghana, and you can see everything on the screen and monitor all your parameters,” Bortsie told Xinhua.

She urged governments in West Africa to invest in equipping their healthcare institutions with such advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and outcomes. “I hope we will have the opportunity in the future to visit some of these manufacturers in China to see firsthand what they do and adopt their technologies for the benefit of Ghana’s health sector,” she added.

The event highlighted the potential for increased collaboration between Chinese medical technology providers and West African healthcare institutions, promising a new era of innovation and improved healthcare delivery in the region.
