Asia Takes Center Stage at Shangri-La Dialogue 2024

Military officials from around the world gathered in Singapore for the 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue—Asia’s premier defence summit—which has just concluded. The event saw intense discussions on pressing issues affecting regional security and stability.

High on the agenda were questions surrounding ASEAN’s role in securing regional peace amidst increasing geopolitical tensions. With the backdrop of heightened competition between the United States and China, delegates delved into strategies that could bolster cooperation and mitigate conflicts.

In an exclusive interview, Choi Shing Kwok, director and CEO of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, shared insights on how ASEAN countries can navigate these complexities. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaborative efforts among ASEAN members to ensure a stable and prosperous region.
